Well, it's been a rather frustrating week in my search to find a lap band doctor. I've been calling around to a few other places, and many of them are just UNFRIENDLY! It seems, and this was very surprising to me, that many of the lap band doctors would prefer to work with patients who are covered by their insurance over cash-pay petients.
If you are a regular (insurance pay) patient, then the consultation is free. If you are paying out of your own pocket, then it's a $200 consultation fee. I have an issue with this. I don't mind having to pay for the tests, or the check-up or whatever (though I think my primary care doctor should be able to do it and send over the results), but I don't want to pay $200 to meet the doctor and decide if I like him or not.
As a cash-pay patient, I would think that the lack of insurance hoops to jump through would make me a more desireable patient, not less. If I ruled the world, I would have the doctor set some time aside each day for short consults so that nervous patients could meet him before deciding who to spend $15,000 + with.
Anyway, I'd love recommendations of lap band doctors in San Diego if you have any. I want someone who is good, compassionate, and also a good person- I know this is so last century, but I like to actually like the people I spend my hard earned money with…
